Wishing you all a very very Happy New Year!

Did not have any plans for the new year's eve but tagged along with some friends for a party at a near-by hotel. Mohit Chauhan  was going to perform so was looking forward to it.
Took a couple of snaps at ISO 1600 but it was giving me quite slow shutter speed - so pumped up the ISO real high - 5000! Tried to test the high-ISO performance of 7D with variety of shots. Hadn't intended to keep it that way through out but forgot to bring it down in later shots - guess i was too distracted with the beauty all around :-).  I did use a bit of Noise reduction while jpg conversion still the noise does show at this ISO. I remembered the importance of shooting in RAW as experienced in the last rock show so used sRAW. only have a 4GB card right now - that gives approx 350 sRAW images which was fine for me.
Canon EOS 7D, ISO 5000, 85mm, f/5.6, 1/125 sec, Aperture priority, SRAW
It was decent size stage - and quite high so 85mm would give a half-body shot with camera pointing upwards if i click from very close to the stage.
Canon EOS 7D, ISO 5000, 85mm, f/4.0, 1/125 sec, Aperture priority, SRAW
Tried a different angle by going to the right side.

I wish i had the wider lens on me while clicking this one. I even tried moving further away but theer was no space to move quickly as the crowd was going crazy to reach out to him. after he sang the superhit 'Tum Se Hi' from 'Jab we Met'.

Noise is clearly seen on this one. Of course i couldn't have slowed down the shutter as the fingers strumming the guitar are already starting to become hazy - also going below f/3.2 would mean loosing DoF. I wanted to keep the guitar in focus as well.
Canon EOS 7D, ISO 5000, 85mm, f/3.2, 1/200 sec, Aperture priority, SRAW

Tried capturing the spectators and this one of a cute little girl is the one i like most. Her dad holding her was standing very close to the stage and she raised her hands to block the floodlights - but not missing on the action even for a sec.
Canon EOS 7D, ISO 5000, 85mm, f/3.5, 1/200 sec, Aperture priority, SRAW
Tried using the 17-55mm to get a wider shot - quite like this one with the focussed beam from behind and the stack of lights on the right. Thought would be interesting to see how this looks in B&W - converted it in GIMP.

Canon EOS 7D, ISO 5000, 42mm, f/5.6, 1/125 sec, Aperture priority, SRAW
Had a great time and hoping to put in lots more in learning different aspects of photography in 2011.

Sounds crazy but i slept at 2 am and got up at 6:30 to play tennis. The sunrise looked great on my way to the court so clicked this one with the streetlights in the foreground.

Wish you all a GRAND 2011.
